Origin Story.

Hello, I'm Merike, creator of ZeroBench.art. I was looking for a bench for my entryway — one with character, durable and homely. One that wouldn't fear a rain-soaked jacket or cat hair. Since I couldn't find anything interesting quickly, in the end I made one just as I imagined it, myself.

Today my benches have found their way into many homes and rental apartments. Every ZeroBench is handmade in Viljandi County. The legs are finished with lime plaster — a material that is breathable, durable and only becomes more beautiful over time.

My process always starts with the bench seat — there are different curves, wood grain, beetle traces. Because of this, no two benches are ever exactly the same.

I have spent my entire working life behind a computer and phone. I know the feeling when by evening your word count has run to zero and screens have become saturated. Working with my hands is my balance point. ZeroBench is that balance point in your entryway.
